Strange Fate is Coming Contest

Up for grabs is a cool and sleek coffin purse prize, stuffed to the brim with goodies! This includes: A Tiffany diary with a red leather cover and silver lock, a shiny red and silver pen to write in the diary with, a Tiffany little black book, a Tiffany Open Heart ring, and a Tiffany Elsa Peretti Open Heart Pendant necklace in sterling silver with diamonds; a gorgeous silk flower bouquet suitable for a vampire wedding; and much more! The contest begins today, January 5th, 2025. See below for full contest rules and regulations.

Rules and Regulations

This contest is for all you people who have been waiting for Strange Fate, and for new readers, too! It is for a coffin purse (anybody remember those? This one is absolutely gorgeous—so well-made, such quality, so lovely to handle) filled with goodies, and you can win it with a single email.

The winner of the Strange Fate is Coming Contest will also receive a personalized autographed copy of Witchlight, the last book in Night World series before Strange Fate, or any other book in the Night World series that they prefer. The 2nd place prizes, which will go to five runners up, will be an autographed hardback copy of a Night World book. Please note that this contest is open to all countries, but that you must be responsible for any customs forms or duty taxes which may be levied by your government (this does not apply to entrants in the USA, obviously).

Attention!  Please, please follow this rule about putting Strange Fate is Coming Contest in the subject field exactly. If you write the Contest or Strange Fate Contest or Contest for Strange Fate or anything other than Strange Fate is Coming Contest, I won’t be able to find your email when it comes time to alphabetically sort my emails and give them to an attorney to have the winner drawn.  If you are copying news of the contest for some other site, please include this rule in the copy.

The Strange Fate is Coming Contest will run from January 5 until March 17.  After the winner has been drawn, s/he will be notified.  Don’t bother to enter if you only have a P.O. box address that you can give, because we don’t ship to those, or if you never check your email, because if I can’t get an address from you, I can’t send you your prize.  Incidentally, I have no interest at all in sending you anything other than your prize, like publicity announcements or such, as everyone who has ever won a prize from my contests will affirm.

Send your entry to lisa@theljsmith.com. If you would like to mention why you would like Strange Fate to come out, why you like my books in general, or anything else about my series, be assured that I will read it. You can also send a blank email, if you are a blank or a cold and empty person.

Just a note to people who have no interest at all in my particular books, but who go about online entering all contests they find: be ashamed! At least in this particular case. You are taking the contest away from legitimate, loving readers of mine and turning it into a commercial enterprise. I can’t stop you, but I will know who you are. I may hex you. Remotely. No offense.¹

Also, one entry per email address—and I mean this. I can see how many times you have entered, and extra entries will be deleted. And don’t go making a bunch of extra email accounts, either, because it’s likely that you’ll forget them or the password by March 17, and then you’ll lose your prize.  If the prizewinner does not respond to my email, in ten days I will pick another.

Good luck in winning the Strange Fate is Coming contest! May the odds . . . well, you know.

¹Any resemblance to actual hexing purely coincidental. No actual hexing even occurs TBH.  In fact, you might find yourself weirdly blessed. Maybe. It could happen. Like with an extra nose.

I still have all the original books in my garage from when I read them as a teenager! I can’t wait for it to be released!

I am so sad that I missed this contest, but I am so happy that the series got finished before Ms. Smith left us. She was an absolutely amazing writer with a heart of gold. Her Night World Series was absolutely wonderful and exciting to read and taught me that being a little different is a good thing! This series brought so much joy, I fell in love with Ash and he was my first “book boyfriend” I wanted to be as cool and brave as Rachel and Keller aka Raksha. As well as being smart like Mary Lynnette. I also really enjoyed Secret circle as well! And even though I just found out about Strange Fate being finished on the same day as finding about Ms.Smith and feeling very sad about it, I also feel as she left us with a wonderful gift. She will be forever missed and I for one am glad I got to know her through her books. Thank you L.J. Smith for all the wonderful worlds you gave us.

You’re night world series got me through so many hard times when I just needed an escape, I still read the books today after 15 years. You will be missed not just for your books but as a wonderful person in this world. Rest in peace lovely Angel.

I was so happy and excited when I discovered this website (L.J. Smith is BACK I thought!!). You filled my shy teenage years with so many lovely stories! Later, as an adult, I was reminded again of how much I love her writing when I discovered The Forbidden Game trilogy. My heart is crushed for her family, friends, and her dedicated readers. Rest in heavenly peace to my favorite author. I really miss you.

The characters and stories you created have meant a lot to me since I was a little girl. Thank you <3
I will treasure my collection of books from you forever.

I have been waiting for Strange Fate since spring 1998. I have owned the Night World books — and The Secret Circle & Dark Visions — since ~1996, and I’ve reread them so much the spines are starting to give way. (I originally had the Vampire Diaries & The Forbidden Game, but they were displaced during a move. I never got my hands on Night of the Solstice.)

I saw today in the NYTimes that LJ Smith has passed away, and I feel shocked and sad. I saw previously about a ghostwriter taking over, and I felt angry then. I hope that Mr. John Silbersack will do everything he can to see Smith’s NW series completed posthumously out of respect for the effort she put into drafting while ill, for her many fans across the decades, and for her legacy after the indignity she went through in the publishing industry. Please see it through, Mr. Silbersack. My condolences to Smith’s family & friends, and to fellow fans.

LJ Smith, your characters have lived in my mind & heart day after day for nearly 30 years. That is not an exaggeration. They’re like friends I carry with me. Thank you. May you rest in peace.

Heartbroken to say the least. Forever grateful that your books and the world’s you let us escape to will forever live on!! To your partner, family and friends all the love, light and prayers from my family!! Xoxo

Your books were one of the first books that got me into fantasy. Honest into reading at all. They completely and utterly consumed every second of my 17th summer. And for that I thank you. I’m saddened with your passing and heartbroken, however your work won’t ever be forgotten. Your work still graces the shelves in my rooms. I’m looking forward to last pieces of you we’ll get to meet through your work.

  23. Caitlin April 14, 2025 at 11:29 am

Thank you for your amazing books, heart broken to say the least. I do hope we get to read Strange Fate though we all know how hard you worked to finish Night World. It would be lovely if the book still went ahead

  24. Nicole Stacy April 15, 2025 at 9:34 am

LJ Smith’s work is what started me on my own writing path. Her Night World books got me through some tough times in my teens.
I’m so sorry she’s gone, but she’s going to live on in her fans hearts forever.

  25. Diana April 16, 2025 at 11:56 pm

May she be resting and at peace, and may her loved ones hold strong in this painful moment
L.J Smith was truly a wonderful author
I will always cherish the memories her books created for me and will be forever thankful for her talent and passion
    Rest In peace 🤍

Like so many other fans, I was shocked and gutted to hear of Lisa’s recent passing. I’ve always loved reading, but her books were always so much more. Her characters were always so much more. Her gift of storytelling and compelling you to believe in her worlds was just so much more.

I’d love to share a quick story about how Lisa’s works have impacted me:

I wrote to Lisa in 2009 as a recent graduate of complementary medicine as I wanted her to know that her books contributed to my love of nature and healing. I never expected a response. Especially one that was as witty, funny and personal. I’ve kept that email – I always will.

Lisa’s gift of storytelling, and her own story of resilience has affected generations of people all across the world. I’m now about to finish a PhD focusing on chronic pain, and I know that Lisa’s lessons in resilience, grace, and hope helped me get through this. She truly is a timless inspiration and to all those who new her personally, I can only imagine your loss. My deepest condolences.

Requiescat in pace. Gratia aeterna, gratiarum aeternarum.
