L.J. Smith Legacy Contests

On March 8th, 2025, we lost a YA literary legend. An author, a family member, a friend, and to many of us, a hero. As some of you already know, Lisa loved her fans and she loved engaging and interacting with them. She also, really loved spoiling them! In the past Lisa hosted a number of contests and prize giveaways to give fans a small token of the magical worlds she had created in her books. Any time she spotted a cool item that reminded her of something from the books, she scooped it up for her fans. Over the years, the prize vault grew substantially. Now, as we await the release date announcement for Strange Fate, we will do something, a little wild and a lot of fun!

Kicking off on September 1st, 2025, we will begin accepting entries to the L.J. Smith Legacy Contest and you get two chances to win! To enter the contest simply submit a single email to lisa@theljsmith.com with “L.J. Smith Legacy Contest” as the subject line. To get an additional chance to win, you can comment under the L.J. Smith Legacy Contest post in the official L.J. Smith News and Updates!!! Facebook group. Each person may send one email, and comment one time, to have two entries. Each email and each comment will be assigned a number. On October 31st, 2025, we will use a random number generator to pick the winning numbers. If your entry number matches any of the chosen numbers, you WIN!

Prizes

1 Super Theme Prize: The very first winner drawn will win a Forbidden Game themed super prize. It includes an engraved sterling silver ring, a real LIVE rose dipped in silver, a necklace, a coffin purse, a rose bracelet and a rare, hard to find foreign L.J. Smith book of your choosing. Multiple languages are available.

5 Grand Prizes: Each of the 5 grand prize winners will receive a randomly chosen ring, a necklace, a pair of earrings, a Tiffany diary with silver lock and key, a coffin purse and a rare, hard to find L.J. Smith foreign book of your choosing. Multiple languages are available.

10 Runners up Prizes: The last 10 winners will receive 2 random prize items chosen by me based on their favorite books and what is left in the prize vault.

As if all of these prizes weren’t exciting enough, starting this week, we will also begin doing Pop-Up Prizes in the official L.J. Smith News and Updates!!! Facebook group. When a Pop-Up Prize post goes up featuring a random prize image, you will have between 24-72 hours to comment to win the item. Comments will be assigned numbers and a random number generator will pick the winner. Comments will be turned off and a winner chosen within 72 hours. Pop-Up Prizes will be ongoing while supplies last.

All prize items were chosen and purchased by Lisa herself. Prize item values vary, we have everything from adjustable teen rings and costume jewelry to Tiffany diaries and jewelry.  Our goal here, is to get a prize item to as many fans as possible; until the prize vault is empty. Therefore, all prize winners will be asked to refrain from entering future contests and giveaways for a minimum of three months to give others a chance to win a prize from Lisa, as well. All items won, regardless of what time in the month they are won, will be shipped out once per month.

We will be doing on-going rolling contests, even once the main contest is over. Random Pop-Up Prizes will continue in the Official L.J. Smith News and Updates!!! group. So, if you haven’t joined yet, head on over and join the Night World family; where we grieve, support and celebrate the L.J. Smith Legacy, together.

Love,

The L.J. Smith family!

    Oh wow.
The Forbiden Game is my favourite series written by L.J. Smith, so I am definitely looking forward to this.

This is beautiful— I happen to have won Lisa’s Dark Valentines Day Contest many years ago. I still have the beautiful black rose. If you happen to read the comments, is there a way you can archive all the old contests Lisa had? I always loved hearing her just describing the contest itself. I would often go back at the website and look at all the pretty items until the old website disappeared. I was Tornstripe on her old forum. It makes me really nostalgic.

This is beautiful. I happen o have won Lisa’s Dark Valentine’s Contest back in the day. I still have the black rose and signed book kept in a safe place. Should the author of this article read the comments– is there a way for Lisa’s old contests to be archived? I always just loved hearing Lisa describing the contest itself, and looking at all the pretty items. It makes me feel really nostalgic.

Discovering ‘The Forbidden Game’ at 13 changed my life. I used to hate reading, but L.J. Smith’s stories gave me a passion that led me to where I am today. I’m forever grateful for her magic and inspiration. Her legacy truly lives on in all the lives she touched.

I am so saddened to hear of her loss so late. I have been a fan of her works far before her stories were loosely turned into TV shows. My heart goes out to her family and I am so happy to hear she is able to live through the gifts she left behind.

So sad to hear that LJ passed. I have been a reader since the first release of Secret Circle, and corresponded with her over the years-I still have those letters written on her rainbow stationary, and will cherish them even more now. 💔

This is sad news for the literary world. Thank you for continuing to share with all her fans

    *sighs*

I literally just learned of LJ’s passing about 10 minutes ago and I’m saddened to read about it. My very first book of hers that I’ve ever bought was Secret Vampire back in 2002 when Borders was still in business, and I have read most of her books not long after that (Vampire Diaries, Secret Circle, Forbidden Game, Dark Visions, and Night World).

I’m very happy to learn that Strange Fate is finished and waiting for publication and it’s also nice that the facebook page and the website is still going and honoring her memory. One of my favorite authors growing up, she’ll be missed, and I will keep reading her books and hold them close to my heart
