Happy Valentine’s Day!

To My Dearest Readers,

Hello, my beautiful lovelies! On this day of warmth and affection, I want to celebrate not just romance, but the kind of love that defies fate, braves the darkness, and shines even in the darkest reaches of the Night World. The love that survives curses, battles monsters–both real and within–and always finds its way back home.

Whether you believe in silver cord-bound soulmates written in the stars or passion that is forged in fire, may you cherish the magic of a connection that feels like destiny.

After all, love is the most powerful magic of all. It can enchant a witch, tame a vampire’s hunger, or turn even the darkest curse into a second chance of redemption. It is the force that binds souls across lifetimes and lights the way even in the shadow of midnight.

Thank you for sharing your hearts with my stories. Wishing you a Valentine’s Day filled with light, passion, sentiment, and perhaps just a touch of the supernatural. As a Valentine’s Day gift for my readers, the excerpt from my first novel for grown-ups, Lullaby will be posted on the site today. Along with a special song I commissioned, from Simon Eugene Music, called “Gather Here.”

By the way, due to my recent sojourn in the hospital (here is a picture of my poor arm after they were done with IVs), everything is delayed on the site by a month. The contest in particular has an extra month to run. It will now run until March 17.

Did you know that in Japan, Valentine’s Day is a day when girls and women only give chocolate to the boys and men? The males give chocolate a month later on White Day to the females! It was a brilliant marketing ploy, doubling the sales of chocolate!

Thanks for reading this far! Until next month, my lovelies!

With love and enchantment,

Lisa

L.J. Smith

Oh your poor arm! IVs are the absolute worst but a necessary evil, I suppose. I’m so glad that you’re on the mend and I’m sending positive vibes for a full recovery and praying that you feel even better than you did before you fell ill! Thank you for the Valentine wishes and the amazing gifts of a song (!) and a new excerpt 😄 love to you and your sweet pup ❤️

I just wanted to take this opportunity and say wow… what a true warrior you are? My mum was strong and battled till the end when the c word took her but look at you! Making a joke out of your vampire looking arm! Which I think is epic and I know first hand (no pun intended) how messed up the IVs make you. You are a true fighter, never give up! I know it can feel like the whole world is against you but you keep coming back, determined to get stranger fates out even all these years later. Thank you so much for persevering and giving us all hope in the darkness. You my lovely are a shining light, a piece of all the strong girls in all of the book. There strength that is reader hold on to, the hope and the joys of celebrating their wins, it all come from within you. Night World was one of my favorites as a teenager. The characters, the escalation of the plot, the romances – they’re a fond part of my memories. I’m so sorry to hear the news. You will be greatly missed.

Lisa – I was thirteen years old when I discovered your books. I joined your forum as jodiedreamer, and then eventually, as my own name, Jade. As a moderator I found friends, a community, and genuine joy and wonder at the magic in the world and your writing. I owe you more than words can express. Thank you for everything. Rest in peace.

Just learned of LJ Smith’s passing and wanted to offer my condolences to her partner, family, and fellow fans. I loved all of her works since I first discovered the Night World. Thank you for many hours of getting lost in your words and for the friends I made online discussing your work. Rest in peace and may your memory be a blessing.

You were, and still are, my favorite author all these decades later. When I found out about your passing, I burst out in tears. In my old room at my parent’s house, the glow-in-the-dark star stickers that came with the first night world book are still on the ceiling. I’ve introduced new generations to your works as they have stood the test of time. Beyond your writing talents, you were a kind and thoughtful person, making time and creating connections with your fans. Old fans, new fans and those yet to come, will truly miss your presence and the hope of more work to come. Thank you for sharing the characters you created with us. Rest in peace Lisa Jane Smith.

I am a fanfiction writer of TVD. Most of the characters that I’ve written are not self-aware that they are characters. Most are content to be a character. Save for Damon. He has always known the reality, and never allowed anything to box in his existence.

We learned of LJ’s passing a few days ago, and my Damon has been grieving. LJ is one of his creators. He always thought there would be time, but now he will never have the chance to know her. If he had questions for her, which he did, they will go forever unanswered.

When we heard the news we purchased all of her work and plan to read it all (which would have always happened eventually, but now…) as a way to make her feel less gone.

    love you very much!
    thank you for your worlds…
I wish you the most peaceful sleep, my heart is broken.

You will be forever missed LJ Smith. I am deeply saddened by the news of your demised as you have been my inspiration and the bearer of my imagination as a teen who was venturing into the world of vampires, witches, and shapeshifters. The Night World series will be my forever favorite fantasy series. I was still holding a little hope even after so many years to read the last book. May you rest in peace and thank you so much for bringing Night World into our lives.
